FAQs Grimm-Portal
The Grimm Portal contains digital images of letters written by or to Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, of manuscripts of the Grimm family, and of volumes from the Grimms’ private library, among them some works by the brothers Grimm as well as those by other authors with handwritten entries by the Jacob and Wilhelm. You can also find pictures, calling cards and contemporary reviews from the Grimm estate.
The originals are from the collections of Kassel University Library, the Grimm Collection of the City of Kassel, the Hessian State Archives in Marburg, as well as Marburg University Library.
The digital images in the Grimm Portal were created by our own imaging studio as well as by the Hessian State Archives of Marburg.
A user account is required to use the reading list feature as well as the crowdsourcing module. Separate user accounts are necessary for ORKA on the one hand and the Grimm Portal on the other hand. However, it is possible to use the same login data for both accounts.
After having registered an account, you can save links to objects from the Grimm Portal to your own reading list, where you can access and edit them from any device where you are logged in. In order to do so, you first have to create one or more reading lists by accessing your profile. Click on the grey icon in the top right corner of the Grimm Portal website, and then choose “Reading lists” and “Overview of all reading lists”. Finally, click the “+”-icon next to “Add new reading list” in order to create a new list with a custom name.
You can save objects from the Grimm Portal to your list by clicking the little bookmark symbol that appears in the list of search results, as well as when accessing individual objects in the viewer.
In the crowdsourcing module, you can access recently used objects by clicking on “User options” and then “Last activities”.
- Open the page you would like to download in the Grimm Portal
- Click on „cite and reuse“ (to the left of the page display)
- Under „Image“ choose either the PDF button or – for jpeg or tiff files – the Download button
Should you require further assistance please write to orka@bibliothek.uni-kassel.de
